BRSC Academy
Are there opportunities for development while my child plays rec soccer?
For many players, the joy of playing soccer with their friends and classmates is enough. However, there are lots of players who are looking for more – learning new skills, tactical instruction, assistance with proper technique, or a structured environment that is challenging. Depending on the age of the player, there are several different opportunities for parents and players to join in addition to their recreational teams.
BRSC Academy
The Academy program is for parents and players who are looking for more frequent training opportunities in an environment that are focused on player development. The Academy Program is available at the Burbank (ages 5-12), Central (ages 8-15), and Zachary campuses (ages 8-15).
Players train under the direction of BRSC Staff coaches to learn the five pillars of the game: Technical, Tactical (Principles of Play), Physical, Psychological, and Social. Players are loosely placed into player pools based on age and skill level to create a challenging environment for each player.
BRSC Jr. Competitive
The BRSC U10/U11 Junior Competitive Program introduces players to the competitive program. Players train twice a week under the direction of professional, certified staff coaches. Training sessions are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings with limited local travel for games on the weekends.
BRSC Rec Plus
The Rec Plus program allows players to train with the BRSC Academy Program or the BRSC Junior Competitive Program at the Burbank Campus. This program allows players to attend their choice of one or two training sessions. It’s perfect for players with busy schedules or who wish to pick up an extra training session. Players in the Rec Plus program do not participate in games.
For players in middle school and above, BRSC offers seasonal programs such as the BRSC High School Training Program and Partners in Development.
Most of all, we recommend that all players find time to get touches on the ball outside of structured training sessions. These opportunities allow players to freely explore their creativity and focus on skills that most interest them. For younger players, we encourage parents to actively participate in free play and always offer positive feedback and positive reinforcement. Focus more on ball manipulation instead of kicking a ball into a net. The book “Soccer Starts at Home” by Tom Byer is a must-read for any soccer parent.
BRSC Academy – Spring Season
Registration for the Spring Academy season for the Burbank, Central, and Zachary Campuses is now open!
The BRSC Academy program is a way for players to receive high-level coaching free from the stress of playing to win. We want players to improve technically and use creativity and improvisation to guide their way through the game. This helps build the foundation of confident, creative players who are prepared to advance into a competitive atmosphere upon completion of the program.
The BRSC Academy Program is open to U6 to U14 boys and girls (2017-2009 birth years).
BRSC’s Zachary and Central Academy programs are open to boys and girls nine to thirteen years old. Registration for these programs is coming soon.
The cost is $350/player for an 11-week season. Players train three days a week at Burbank (with playdates for select age groups) and twice a week at the Central and Zachary Campuses.

BRSC Introduces Academy Program to Zachary
Due to the growth of our Zachary campus and requests of the community, BRSC will introduce the Academy program to Flanacher Road Park for the Spring 2020 season.
BRSC Academy is for the players and parents who are looking for a structured training and game environment focused around player development.
Baton Rouge Soccer Club Executive Director Louie Smothermon is excited about the opportunity to implement a proven program for player development at a third BRSC campus. “We are incredibly pleased with the growth of our Zachary campus and feel the addition of the Academy program to Flanacher Road Park is the next logical step for the growth of soccer in Zachary.”
The Zachary program is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. BRSC conducts each session with professional Academy Coaches who follow the Academy Pathway and Curriculum.
The season will begin on February 3, 2020, and will consist of three sessions per week for ten weeks. Training will take place Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 6 – 7:30 pm at Flanacher Road Park. Two days per week will focus on individual skill development and one day on small-sided games.
Players will need to purchase the Academy uniform from Third Coast Soccer. Due to the frequency of training, we advise parents to buy more than one jersey.
Parents interested in learning more about the Academy Program can visit the BRSC Academy Overview. Registration is currently open for all Academy programming at Burbank, Independence, and Zachary through Blue Sombrero.
