The BRSC Mudbugz “parent and me” style program offers a unique opportunity for children, ages 2 to 4 years old, to have fun, build motor skills, increase focus, and instill confidence all while becoming comfortable with a soccer ball at their feet.

Because parents are the key in creating a positive and engaging culture of development, which is paramount at the earliest stages of development, each “parent and me” session is designed using core concepts from Tom Byers’ Soccer Starts at Home®. Our hope is that each Mudbugz session, filled with age-appropriate games and activities, is not only fun for your child, but also provides parents with the fundamentals of the sport.

Learn more about the Mudbugz program in our informational video.

BRSC Mudbugz is the perfect way for parents and children to spend quality time developing critical soccer skills in a fun environment, all while fostering a bond over the love of the sport!

Please email BRSC Mudbugz Director Tracy Phipps with any questions about the program.

BRSC Mudbugz FAQ

BRSC Mudbugz FAQ

During the spring and fall, our sessions are held outdoors at Burbank Soccer Complex on Saturday mornings and Independence Park on Monday evenings. Indoor summer and winter sessions are also typically held at Nairn Park Recreation Center on Saturday mornings and the Antioch Park Recreation Center on Monday evenings. Exact locations of the indoor sessions may vary by season.
As each session (and group of children) is as unique as each child themselves, we tailor the sessions to fit appropriately; however, we tend to maintain a pretty routine flow, as everyone can benefit from consistency. The two and three-year-old sessions are 45-minutes long, begin with a non-ball warm-up, followed by an introduction of our “mudbug” soccer ball, warm up with a ball (including an introduction to a skill), and end with 1 to 2 fun games. The four-year-old sessions are 1 hour long, begin the same way as the younger groups, but end with a short scrimmage.
The registration fee includes 6-8 sessions (varies by season) led by a trained coach, a Mudbugz shirt, and a certificate of completion.
All ages need to wear athletic shorts or pants, a t-shirt (each registered child will receive a Mudbugz shirt to wear), and athletic shoes or soccer cleats (note: the winter and summer seasons are held indoors and soccer cleats are not allowed on the gym floor). The four-year-olds will need shin guards and long athletic socks.
A size 3 Soccer Ball is standard for this age; however, a size 2 is recommended for smaller children (2-year-olds specifically).
This is a parent-and-me style program, so please plan to join your child in the activities. We ask that you be as involved or not involved as your individual child needs you to be. Some children prefer their parents just to watch from the "sideline", while others do better with their parents at their side.
