BRSC MUDBUGZ

The BRSC Mudbugz Parent & Me program provides a fun, engaging, and developmentally appropriate introduction to soccer for children ages 2 to 4 years old. Through imaginative games, movement activities, and age-appropriate soccer experiences, children build confidence, develop fundamental motor skills, improve focus, and become comfortable with a soccer ball at their feet—all while having fun alongside a parent or caregiver.

Because parents play a critical role in creating a positive and supportive learning environment, each Parent & Me session is intentionally designed using core concepts from Tom Byer's Soccer Starts at Home® philosophy. This approach recognizes that the earliest stages of development are essential in fostering a lifelong love of the game and physical activity.

Sessions focus on movement education, coordination, balance, and introductory soccer skills through creative, play-based activities. Families can expect a variety of engaging games and exercises designed to maximize participation, encourage exploration, and promote individual growth. In addition to providing a fun experience for young players, the program also equips parents with simple tools and techniques to continue developing their child's skills at home.

MUDBUGZ - PLAYER PATHWAY

The Player Pathway is the hierarchy of programs established by BRSC to provide players with the opportunity to advance to the highest levels of play. Each step builds upon the previous one to assist players with skill development and tactical understanding as they transition to the next level of play. BRSC Mudbugz is an introductory program for beginners ages 2-4. Following Mudbugz players can join our recreational program or advance to the Academy for professional training.

BRSC Mudbugz FAQ

BRSC Mudbugz is a fun, engaging Parent & Me soccer program designed specifically for children ages 2 to 4 years old. The program focuses on movement education, motor skill development, confidence building, social interaction, and introducing children to soccer through age-appropriate games and activities.
BRSC Mudbugz sessions are offered at various locations throughout the year, including: • Burbank Soccer Complex • Independence Park • Antioch Indoor Facility • Nairn Indoor Facility Available locations vary by season.
As each session (and group of children) is as unique as each child themselves, we tailor the sessions to fit appropriately; however, we tend to maintain a pretty routine flow, as everyone can benefit from consistency. The two and three-year-old sessions are 45-minutes long, begin with a non-ball warm-up, followed by an introduction of our “mudbug” soccer ball, warm up with a ball (including an introduction to a skill), and end with 1 to 2 fun games. The four-year-old sessions are 1 hour long, begin the same way as the younger groups, but end with a short scrimmage.
The registration fee includes: • 6-8 sessions (varies by season) • Instruction led by a trained BRSC Mudbugz coach • One official BRSC Mudbugz shirt • A certificate of completion Additional Mudbugz shirts may be purchased during registration.
Participants should wear: • Athletic shorts or pants • The official BRSC Mudbugz shirt • Athletic shoes or soccer cleats Children who are 4 years old are required to wear: • Shin guards • Soccer cleats Please dress your child appropriately for weather conditions when participating outdoors.
Yes. Each child should bring a Size 3 (or smaller) soccer ball to every session. Mudbugz soccer balls are available for purchase during registration and will be distributed by the coach at the beginning of the season. Please note that coaches cannot accept cash payments for soccer balls.
BRSC Mudbugz is open to children who are 2, 3, or 4 years old.
Yes. BRSC Mudbugz is a Parent & Me style program, which means a parent or caregiver is expected to participate alongside their child during each session. Every child is different, and we encourage parents to be as involved—or as uninvolved—as their individual child needs them to be. Some children prefer that their parents simply watch from the "sideline," while others are most successful with a parent actively participating by their side. Our goal is to create a fun, supportive, and positive environment where children can learn and develop at their own pace. Parent involvement helps foster confidence, encourages participation, and contributes to a positive experience for both the child and the family.
No. No prior soccer experience is necessary. BRSC Mudbugz is designed for beginners and focuses on introducing children to soccer in a fun and developmentally appropriate way.
Each BRSC Mudbugz session is designed to meet the unique needs of the children participating. Since every group of children is different, coaches may adjust activities as needed; however, we strive to maintain a consistent routine, as young children benefit greatly from structure and repetition. Two and Three-Year-Old Sessions (45 minutes): Non-ball warm-up activities Introduction of the "Mudbug" soccer ball Ball warm-up activities Introduction and practice of a soccer skill One to two fun, age-appropriate games Four-Year-Old Sessions (60 minutes): Follow the same general structure as the younger age groups Include more advanced skill activities and challenges Conclude with a short scrimmage to introduce game play concepts Our goal is to provide a fun, positive, and developmentally appropriate experience for every child.
Yes. Each registered participant receives an official BRSC Mudbugz shirt as part of their registration. Additional Mudbugz shirts may be purchased during registration.
• 2 and 3-year-old sessions: 45 minutes • 4-year-old sessions: 60 minutes Specific dates and times are available during registration.
That is completely normal and expected at this age. Our coaches are experienced in working with young children and understand that every child adjusts differently. Some children participate immediately, while others may need several sessions to become comfortable. Parents are encouraged to support their child at their own pace and celebrate small successes along the way.
Unfortunately, make-up sessions are not guaranteed for missed classes. Families should notify their coach through PlayMetrics if their child will be absent.
BRSC uses PlayMetrics as its primary communication platform. Families should download the PlayMetrics mobile app to: • View schedules and calendars • Receive announcements and updates • Mark attendance • Communicate with coaches and staff • Receive weather and field closure notifications
Weather-related updates, cancellations, and field closures will be communicated through PlayMetrics. Families should monitor the app and email for updates.
Only registered participants may actively participate in sessions. Siblings who are not registered should remain under direct supervision of a parent or guardian at all times.
Children should register for the class corresponding to their age as indicated during registration. If you have questions about placement, please contact the Program Director.
