Steve McAnespie
Coach Macca brings decades of elite playing and coaching experience to the game, with a journey that spans from the highest levels of European football to the continued development of players across the United States.
Macca began his professional career at just 15 years old, signing with Aberdeen FC under legendary manager Alex Ferguson. During his time there, he became the youngest captain in club history, helped lead the team to both league and Scottish Cup titles, and earned Young Player of the Year honors.
After a brief spell in Stockholm, he returned to Scotland to play for Raith Rovers, where he enjoyed one of the most decorated periods of his career. Macca helped the club secure both the league and League Cup titles, famously converting the decisive penalty in the final against Celtic FC. That season, he swept individual honors, earning Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year, and Fans’ Player of the Year. He also competed in the UEFA Cup, including a memorable matchup against Bayern Munich.
Macca later made a record transfer move to Bolton Wanderers in the English Premier League. After relegation, the team bounced back immediately, winning the Championship in record-setting fashion—scoring the most goals and earning the highest point total in league history—while also being named National Sports Team of the Year.
He continued his success with Fulham FC under Kevin Keegan, where he won two championships before finishing his playing career with several clubs and eventually transitioning into coaching.
Macca began coaching while still a professional player, assisting within his club’s academy system. After retiring, he relocated to the United States in 2002 and quickly became a cornerstone of player development in Louisiana and beyond. His extensive coaching résumé includes roles as a joint founder of Shell Shockers PDL, Lafreniere Soccer Club, CSA, and New Orleans United. He has also served as Technical Director for Indiana Invaders and Head Coach for Indiana Invaders PDL, Louisiana Fire, Brother Martin High School, BRSC, Louisiana MLS Elite, and BRSC United.
He holds both a USSF “C” License and a UEFA “B” License, reflecting his commitment to the game and to developing players at every level.
With a career defined by leadership, winning, and player development, Coach Macca continues to bring passion, experience, and a global perspective to every team he leads.
