Expanding Opportunities to Central and Zachary Academy

BRSC Central Academy Training

For the upcoming spring 2025 season, Baton Rouge SC announced changes to the Academy program at Lovett Road Park in Central and Flanacher Road Park in Zachary. BRSC Operations Director and Satellite Campus Director Paul Fletcher is enacting changes to the program following a season of membership feedback and analyzing the current program structures.

“While chatting with coaches and parents in Central and Zachary they voiced specific age groups that wanted additional training to help improve the players’ technical skill sets,” noted Paul Fletcher. “We modified the Academy sessions at each campus to address these requests.”

In Zachary, the adjustments have been largely spurred by the middle and high school coaches. Fletcher is more than happy to accommodate the requests to help further grow the interest and skills of the players in Zachary.

“Coaches indicated an interest in more technical training with one of our Academy Coaches. These sessions will be provided at their home park and players will not have to travel to the Burbank Soccer Complex to get the additional Academy training while still playing with their Recreation teams.”

The BRSC Academy Program employs a developmentally oriented approach to all training sessions with an emphasis on technical ability and creativity. The purpose of BRSC Academy is to prepare players for a competitive environment with the skills necessary to excel. For most players, this includes advancing to BRSC’s Competitive Program, and for older players, that provides for success on their middle and high school teams. Training sessions are led by Certified Coaches following the BRSC Academy Curriculum.

Beginning in the Spring the Zachary Campus will feature two training time slots on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The first session is open to all boys and girls in first through fourth grade from 5:00 – 6:15 pm for eight weeks. The second training will run from 6:30 – 7:45 for all middle and high-school-aged players. The season will begin February 4th and conclude around March 27th.

The Central Academy Program will focus on 1st and 2nd graders with training sessions on
Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 – 6:00 pm. In the fall BRSC offered a free Academy training session for the recreational players to give players a taste of the program. Over forty players attended the free clinic to work on technical abilities and some essential skills.

Throughout the fall recreational season, Fletcher has seen a concerted effort by the recreational coaches to improve player development at the grassroots level. “The coaches are working hard with their teams to teach them the laws of the game and develop foundational skills.” The next step in further enhancing the skills of the older players is player-centered development from professional BRSC Coaches.
“The Academy program sessions are geared to improving each player’s technical skill set dribbling, passing, and refining technique. We’re excited about the interest from parents, players, and coaches in the Academy program. By working together we can elevate the level of play for the future of those communities middle and high school programs.”

Registration for both Academy programs is now open at www.brsoccer.org through Playmetrics. Parents and players can attend one session per week or both training sessions.
