A Message from Marvin Smith – LATDP Catalyst Experience

Dear Players, Parents, and Staff,

On behalf of our LATDP program, I want to thank you for participating in the Dynamo Catalyst Festival at the Houston Sports Park this past weekend. Massive thanks to the parents for the availability of your sons and your overall support of this program. 

As we all know “it takes many hands” and I want to express thanks to Louie Smothermon, Kiran Booluck, and Angie Mitchell for their administrative efforts, which allowed for a great experience overall. Thanks to members of our coaching staff, Melin Pottillo and Chris Stewart for coaching the teams during the event. 

Additionally, a special thanks to Paul Holocher, Houston Dynamo FC Academy Director, his incredible staff, and ALL the Dynamo FC Academy affiliates that participated in the event.  

I must begin by mentioning we played against some established, very talented, well-coached opponents. However, our objective of this experience was all about individual player development. I trust that each player left the event with a greater appreciation of technical proficiency as it relates to tactical implementation. In one of my discussions with the players, I encouraged them to reflect on their individual play and asked them the following questions.

Did you feel you had little/no time on the ball (always under pressure)?

Were you unable to see/find teammates?

Did you feel outnumbered when defending? 

Ultimately, I hope this experience serves as an “igniter” for all of who participated. For the players, I hope it instills a greater passion and commitment to investing more time and effort daily toward their personal soccer development. 

In my estimation, this was a very positive experience that far exceeded my expectations and I look forward to attending a similar event later this spring.
