Nominate – Rec. Coach of the Week
The success and growth of BRSC’s recreational program depend on the hard work of the volunteer coaches. Each week we will recognize the outstanding coaches who exemplify BRSC’s core values – a commitment to excellence, innovation, togetherness, leadership, and respect. All nominations will be reviewed and selected by the Recreational Director and Recreational Director of Coaching based on the criteria mentioned above. BRSC will recognize winners www.brsoccer.org and the Baton Rouge Soccer Club Facebook page.
To nominate a deserving coach, complete the following form in its entirety.
Coaches, How to Create a Team
BRSC Recreational league is a volunteer-based program that depends on the generosity of parent coaches. Serving as a coach is an incredibly fulfilling experience. The process of starting a team in one of our recreational leagues is simple if you follow the steps outlined below.
• Team Division (by grade and gender)
• Team Name
• Coach(es) name(s) and email address(es)
• Playing Campus (Burbank, Central, etc.)
• School Name (if this will be a school-based team)
- Sign up as a Volunteer Coach using our Coaching Participation Form.
- Complete your background check (this will be sent to you after completing the Coaching Participation Form).
- Let the parents of your child’s friends/classmates know the Grade, Gender, and Team Name of your team. They will need this information when they register online through the BRSC website and request to be on your team.

Benefits of Coaching
Serving as a recreational soccer coach is an incredibly rewarding experience. BRSC coaches play a crucial role in helping the development of children within the sport but also in life. As a coach, you will help children learn the value of teamwork, how to win graciously, how to handle setbacks, when to adjust strategy, and how to persevere. Best of all, coaches have a direct hand in the development of each player. As a parent-coach, you will forge memories with your child that will last a lifetime.
BRSC Benefits
BRSC coaches also have the added benefit of establishing the practice time and location for the team. The ability to set schedules is the perfect option for parents with busy lives. Coaches also have input with game schedules and the reschedule of games. Whether you have experience with soccer or have limited knowledge of the game, BRSC provides all the necessary training and equipment to prepare you for the season. All coaches receive a free Raising Cane’s kit with all of the required practice gear for your team.
BRSC Support
BRSC also provides ongoing coaching education through clinics, and weekly practice sessions, which arrive via email. Coaches in need of additional assistance can contact the BRSC Director of Coaching to receive support with practices as needed. Beyond providing an enjoyable experience for a group of enthusiastic kids throughout a season, you will also find that there is a lot of leftover for the coach as well.
For questions about coaching, contact BRSC Director of Coaching Stanley Johnson.
How BRSC places players on teams?
One of the most common questions we receive during the recreational registration process is how we place players on teams. For players who do not have a requested team, we use several factors provided during the registration process to group players together.
The three primary points we take into consideration are the player’s school, address, and preferred practice location. BRSC also takes into account any special requests noted in the registration process. These can include the desire to play for a particular coach, friend, or practice days. Since all BRSC coaches in our recreational leagues are parent volunteers, it is not always possible to meet practice time and date requests. Each coach sets practice dates, times, and locations.
Some parents want to coach but do not have a team. We connect those parents/coaches with unallocated players first based on placement preferences.
In instances when we have more available players than coaches, we will contact parents of unallocated players to gauge interest in serving as a coach. Volunteer coaches help fulfill a critical role for our club and players to provide players with an enjoyable experience. No previous soccer experience to coach is required.
Player placement continues throughout the registration period. Our goal is to have players on teams two weeks before the start of the season. Schedules are posted one week before the rec start date.
