Andy Smothermon

Youth Academy Director

Coach Andy grew up in Phoenix, AZ. He played club and high school soccer while residing there. He previously coached for clubs in Phoenix and New Orleans. He was a staff coach for Carrollton Soccer Association and Chicago Fire Juniors Soccer Club for ten years.

Andy also spent the last twelve years as a Physical Education teacher and coach at Trinity Episcopal School. While there he guided the soccer teams to numerous league championships and runner-up titles. He was also the coach and instructor for the summer soccer camps. He attended and played soccer for Glendale Community College and Francis Marion University. He completed his education with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education & Promotion from Northern Arizona University. Coach Andy played in the PDL and USISL leagues for the Arizona Cotton, Phoenix Hearts, and the Arizona Saguaros.

Coach Andy currently holds his NSCAA National Diploma.

Melissa Ramsey

Academy Coach Staff

Melissa Ramsey is a native of Baton Rouge, where she grew up playing soccer with BRSC and Baton Rouge High School.  She previously was the academy director for the Capital City United Soccer Club. Ramsey went on to receive a scholarship to play Div I soccer at Radford, VA for two years.  She then finished her playing career as a scholarship athlete at UMass and competed in the College Cup. Ramsey played professionally in Finland and semi-pro in Jackson, MS. Her coaching experiences include Assistant coach at Alabama University, Assistant coach at Tulane University, Head women’s coach at Christopher Newport in VA, and Assistant coach at Penn State University. She returned to Baton Rouge in 2005, where she began coaching club at BRSC and CCU.  She has been the head girls’ soccer coach at University High School (2008-present) and led them to 2 State Championships.

Melissa Ramsey currently holds her USSF “A” coaching license as well as an NSCAA Advanced National coaching license.

Raphael Nunes

Assistant Director of Academy / Outreach

Coach Raphie grew up in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where he played competitive soccer as a Goalkeeper at Youth Academy Cruzeiro E.C and Fluminense.  He served as the high school Head Coach and middle school futsal coordinator at Instituto Ebenezer in Lagoa Santa, Brazil. In March of 2016,  Nunes moved to Baton Rouge. He is the Parkview Baptist girls Head Coach and is on the Olympic Development Program (ODP) staff.
Nunes is also the Outreach Assistant Director for BRSC. He currently holds the USSF National "D" License, bachelor's degree in professional aircraft piloting, bachelor's degree in theology, and is pursuing a master's degree in Sports Training and Management.
