The BRSC Academy program is a way for players to receive high-level coaching free from the stress of playing to win. Are there opportunities for development while my child plays rec soccer?

For many players, the joy of playing soccer with their friends and classmates is enough. However, there are lots of players who are looking for more – learning new skills, tactical instruction, assistance with proper technique, or a structured environment that is challenging. Depending on the age of the player, there are several different opportunities for parents and players to join in addition to their recreational teams.

BRSC Academy
The Academy program is for parents and players who are looking for more frequent training opportunities in an environment that are focused on player development. The Academy Program is available at the Burbank (ages 5-12), Central (ages 8-15), and Zachary campuses (ages 8-15).
Players train under the direction of BRSC Staff coaches to learn the five pillars of the game: Technical, Tactical (Principles of Play), Physical, Psychological, and Social. Players are loosely placed into player pools based on age and skill level to create a challenging environment for each player.

BRSC PreCompetitive
The BRSC U10/U11 Junior Competitive Program introduces players to the competitive program. Players train three times a week under the direction of professional, certified staff coaches. Training sessions are held Tuesday through Thursday evenings with limited local travel for games on the weekends. NOTE: The boys program is currently full and not taking additional players. At this time space is only available for 2013 – 2015 girls.

BRSC Rec Plus
The Rec Plus program allows players to train with the BRSC Academy Program or the BRSC Junior Competitive Program at the Burbank Campus. This program allows players to attend their choice of one or two training sessions. It’s perfect for players with busy schedules or who wish to pick up an extra training session. Players in the Rec Plus program do not participate in games.

For players in middle school and above, BRSC offers seasonal programs such as the BRSC High School Training Program and Partners in Development (coming soon).

Most of all, we recommend that all players find time to get touches on the ball outside of structured training sessions. These opportunities allow players to freely explore their creativity and focus on skills that most interest them. For younger players, we encourage parents to actively participate in free play and always offer positive feedback and positive reinforcement. Focus more on ball manipulation instead of kicking a ball into a net. The book “Soccer Starts at Home” by Tom Byer is a must-read for any soccer parent.
