A Letter from the Director - Facility and Program Improvements

by Kay Briggs | Feb 07, 2019

Executive Director’s Corner
"Facility and Program Improvements"

Every season, we are looking to find different ways to improve opportunities for our members, including programming and services.  Last year, we extended our developmental pathway for players by adding the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL) for our high school juniors and seniors looking to play in college.  It’s a great league for our older girls who have the opportunity to interact, play, and learn from players who are already at the next level from LSU and most of the surrounding colleges and universities.

For our older boys, we started a Gulf Coast Premier League (GCPL) team to play in a regional league offering the same opportunities as above.  We have expanded our Academy (professional training for 5-9 year-olds) and started Rec Plus (professional training for players in our recreational league). Both programs are available at Burbank, as well as, Independence Park.

We are looking to add lights to complete the back fields at Burbank which will allow for additional training spaces, earlier start times for youth and adult league games, and more lighted fields to help ensure enough space for this summer’s huge U.S. Youth Southern Regionals  Tournament this June (this event will also improve the fields’ surface lasting several seasons for our members).

We are looking to develop a Championship Field at Burbank to offer a higher level playing venue at the park.  We will be improving the lighting, surface, team benches, and adding bleachers to hold approximately 500 supporters.  This field will also serve as a great home field for our local Club and High School soccer programs.

I would like to thank all of our players, parents and members for participating with the Baton Rouge Soccer Club.  Every child, parent, and member in the Club is important and we appreciate you all very much.
